Chris Stain & Armsrock at Ad Hoc Gallery
For the final show at Ad Hoc, Chris Stain and Armsrock created a nice installation to send the gallery off. The opening is from 7 – 10 pm tonight in Bushwick. Get grimy.
“Chris Stain first became infected by graffiti’s bold colors, striking form, and independent nature as a child in the summer of 1984. As time went by he investigated other avenues of art such as print making, graphic design, and screen printing. Stain’s work is a direct reflection of the people, neighborhoods, and struggles that are swept along with the every day lives of the common American. It is his hope that through the work he will be able to convey the importance of the role of the less recognized individual of society.
Armsrock is an artist and activist whose work focuses on the human condition in the urban environment. By creating hundreds of unique drawings of his fellow citizens, and placing these original pieces on the walls of the city, Armsrock makes an attempt to generate a critical understanding of the stories and fates that house us.”

Inside Black Acid Co-op
Finally had the chance to check out Justin Lowe and Jonah Freeman’s Black Acid Co-op at Deitch, one of the greatest installations I have ever seen. Be sure to make it over there before August 15th.

OCULAR ECHOISM: THE AUTONOMY OF ELLIS GALLAGHER.

This show opens tonight at Collective Hardware in NYC.
“In his highly anticipated debut solo show exhibition, Ellis Gallagher continues his quest in deobjectifying the common street icon and manifests it into the surreal. His sidewalk chalk drawings of the city’s overlooked objects- mailboxes, garbage cans, street signs, bicycles, etc.- have become a trademark in street art culture worldwide. ‘Ocular Echoism: The Autonomy of Ellis Gallagher’ is collectively the artist’s most ambitious body of work to date and includes limited edition screen prints, original photographs, skate decks, fire tags, and an indoor New York City street scene instillation, garbage included.”
You can watch video of Bklyn Organic Still Life where Ellis G. outlines every single plant on a street in downtown Brooklyn after the jump
The Manhattan Airport Foundation

I love it when Central Park is described as an “undeveloped parcel of land.” Truly romantic. I think we just need more seaplanes. They’re so cool.
“The Manhattan Airport Foundation is a land-use constituency committed to the immediate development of a viable and centrally-located international air transportation hub in New York City for the benefit of all New Yorkers.”

Dime bags at Giant Robot New York

Opening this Saturday is a great show with a nice concept, and the longest artist list I think I’ve ever seen. Curated by Jordan Isip and Rodger Stevens,
“Dime Bag 3 is the ninth in an ongoing series of events by Isip and Stevens, bringing together over 200 artists from New York City and beyond representing an extraordinary variety of disciplines. Painters, illustrators, graphic designers, filmmakers, photographers, product designers, and others have been invited to create artworks specifically designed to be exhibited in 3-inch plastic bags: dime bags. Each artist was sent one of the symbolic baggies and asked to fill it in any way they wished.”
