Thanks Guys!

Ambiguity is key.
“It consists of a 6×8.5 inch table mirror with a wallet sized photo of the actor Brad Renfro (now deceased). The photo is set into the mirror frame and is accompanied by handwritten, lipstick* text (written on each mirror by James Franco). The text reads “Brad Forever.” The issue also includes a 9.5 x 27 inch black and white fold-out poster of James receiving a carving of the word “BRAD” in his arm by tattooer Mark Mahoney.”

Coinciding with the physical release of King of Limbs, Radiohead will be giving away THE UNIVERSAL SIGH, a free 12 page newspaper featuring words, lyrics, artwork by Stanley Donwood, and three feature-length pieces. Have a look here to find a location nearest yourself (NYC – SoHo, Union Square, Times Square), and don’t worry about the environmental impact, “Radiohead will measure the carbon footprint of this project, and to offset the potential ecological impact we will retire the carbon credits used.”

Last week, Roger, Angelique, Caleb and I took a trip to Baltimore. We visited SHAKEN, ate crab balls at Chappie’s, explored the punk rock/graffiti den known as the Loft, and visited a strip club where the stage was made out of raw plywood (because there’s nothing sexier than strippers with splinters). But most memorable of all was our tour of the historic Globe Posters. Founded in 1929, Globe produced bills for almost every soul, funk, rhythm & blues or hip-hop act imaginable. Their designs, chunks of florescent colors and typefaces are now iconic, and it was a privilege to visit Globe before it is gone. Due to financial issues, Globe closed its doors last year, but co-owner Bob Cicero granted us a special tour of the shop and its piles of original posters, hand-carved wood type and vintage print blocks. These are probably some of the last photos you will see of this amazing place. Bob estimated that Globe will be gone for good within the next two months.

My friend Paul Schiek has been running his own publishing company since 2005. He makes really great photo books that are only available by subscription. The 3rd subscription series features photographers Mark Steinmetz, Dru Donovan, Elaine Stocki, and Katy Grannan and can be pre-ordered now. Anyway, this video is of Paul, and Mike Brodie creating the limited edition postcard box set commemorating the 25th anniversary of Jim Goldberg’s landmark book Rich and Poor.

We should have seen a theme when we did that SI boobcam slideshow last week. Congrats to Irina! Visit the website here, and definitely check out their tight iPad app for that non-paper more mobile experience.
