An Arty Slumber Party

Christos Katsiaouni was in the mix last weekend when Creative Time celebrated their 2014 Fall Ball at Neuehouse with two consecutive nights of partying. Friday night saw 200 overnight guests arrive for a sleepover featuring all night fun including video projections by Marco Brambilla and SPACE PROGRAM Rice & Beans by Tom Sachs. Saturday night, the energy continued with a dance party over two levels of the Flatiron event and office space. With nonstop energy flowing for 48 hours, whether anyone actually got any sleep is up for debate.

Openings & Parties: Freezer Burn

Last Saturday night on the Upper East Side, Hauser & Wirth presented ‘FREEZER BURN’, a group exhibition put together by Rita Ackermann. Featuring a list of stellar names and artworks, the turnout for opening night was a supreme success. Christos Katsiaouni on hand to document the atmosphere.

Openings & Parties: “NOT FOR PROFIT” presented by Vito Schnabel and the Bruce High Quality Foundation

Last night, The Bruce High Quality Foundation went all Willy Wonka by opening the doors to their rarely seen headquarters. The occasion was “NOT FOR PROFIT,” a benefit and celebratory evening of live music and performances by Dev Hynes, Ana Fabrega, FAKE INJURY PARTY, Edan, Blazer Sound System and Max McFerren. Attendees drank from an open Vodka Bar provided by Belvedere Vodka, and bought art right off the walls to help raise funds for the BHQFU.

Openings & Parties: Born in the Bronx – A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip Hop

Curated by Johan Kugelberg and on display at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Born in the Bronx is a showcase of rare artifacts from the Cornell University Hip Hop Collection that highlights the personal narratives and archives of Afrika Bambaataa, the late Buddy Esquire, Charlie Ahearn, and photographer Joe Conzo. On view through July 26th.

Openings & Parties: 2014 CREATIVE TIME Spring Gala Honoring Kara Walker

Last night, over 700 high-profile guests enjoyed a sneak-peek of Kara Walker’s A Subtlety, her first large-scale public project that sits inside Brooklyn’s Domino Sugar Factory. Supported by Creative Time, attendees to the gala danced to a set by the legendary DJ Afrika Bambaataa and sipped Absolut Elyx cocktails out of tin bottles inspired by the space’s industrial past. With the goal of supporting the New York-based nonprofit, over $1.3 Million dollars was raised, ensuring a continued legacy in the arts. For those wishing to see Kara Walker’s enormous homage to the sphinx, A Subtlety goes on view to the public beginning this Friday, May 10th 2014.
