RUSSIAN developers outlined plans on Saturday for a 350-hectare artificial island in the shape of Russia to be built off the Black Sea coast near the future Olympic venue Sochi.
Federation Island is expected to house around 25,000 people in apartments and villas and is to be completed in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, said its designer, Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat.

It will have two marinas, three religious centres, roads, parkland and artificial rivers, the latter designed to mimic some of the major rivers of Russia.

According to numbers from iSuppli, Apple’s iPhone outsold all smartphones in the United States in July. This represents its first full month of sales and accounted for 1.8% of all U.S. mobile handsets.
The two models of the iPhone on the market sold more than Research in Motion’s Blackberry series, the entire Palm portfolio and any individual smartphone model from Motorola, Nokia or Samsung.

The data was collected through a consumer survey of 2 million participants in the U.S.

Cellular-news offers some additional statistics from iSuppli’s survey.

- 57% of iPhones bought in July were U.S. consumers 35 years or younger
- 52% Male, 48% Female
- 1/4 of iPhone purchases switched to AT&T from another provider.

Apple had previously stated that they expect to sell one million iPhones by the end of September, with a longer term goal of grabbing 1% of the cell phone market

Kristal, 75, founded the legendary rock club CBGB and ran the club for 33 years. A singer and songwriter himself, Kristal opened the club to showcase “Country Bluegrass and Blues”; instead the club became a breeding ground for Punk rock. Among the many acts that called CBGB home were Blondie, the Talking Heads, Television, Living Color, Patti Smith and the Ramones. The club
closed in October 2006, but CBGB continues, with a retail store in New York City and worldwide merchandise sales; in addition, there currently are plans to open new CBGB clubs in several locations.
Kristal is survived by his daughter, Lisa Kristal Burgman, son, Mark Dana Kristal, son-in-law Ger Burgman, grandchildren Jenny and Adam Burgman, CBGB, and the thousands of artists and musicians who played the club.
A private memorial service is planned. A public memorial will be held at a later date. A seven-legged lamb has been born in New Zealand. Two of the extra legs hang useless behind the lamb’s forelegs. The animal has three hind legs, one of them with two hoofs. It walks using its two forelegs and three hind legs The lamb was born on the farm of Dave and Di Callaghan.
