In anticipation of “Cloverfield” coming out, Bloody Disgusting has put together the must see giant monster movie list. Since it’s Monday and you’re taking your time to get moving, enjoy all the video clips of giant monster movies. This is where youtube is brilliant.
If you saw evil dead, evil dead 2, army of darkness,….and 91 other things he has been in, Then you will love “My name is Bruce”. Bruce Campbell, plays himself, I find this probably was not too hard. Here’s the breakdown…..
“My Name Is Bruce is the tale of a small town set upon by demons after a group of teen-agers unwittingly unleash an ancient curse. Campbell, playing himself, is kidnapped off the set of a B horror movie and, despite his protestations that he’s just an actor, is forced to play the role of his heroic movie character in order to save the town.” Originally scheduled for a 07 release, it looks like 08 will be his year.
Another week, some more of Flats’ dirty commentary.
The State of America Part IV: There Will Be Blood
It is 1903. You are 200 feet in the ground. Your pit is eight feet by eight feet, the only light is coming from the opening far above your head. You
Bloomberg reports that Warner Brothers, Paramount, Walt Disney Co., Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, and Fox will begin renting movies through Apple’s iTunes Store in an announcement scheduled for January 15th at Macworld.
Bloomberg states that both new releases and older titles will rent for $3.99 for 24 hours, consistent with recent rumors. Fox was the first studio to have signed onto the iTunes rental deal.
The Academy Award Winning Documentary, HBO’s “Born Into Brothels” (2005) is by far one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Shot in Calcutta’s red light district. Born into Brothels, by Ross Kauffman and Zana Briski, is a..” tribute to the resiliency of childhood and the restorative power of art, Born into Brothels is a portrait of several unforgettable children who live in the red light district of Calcutta, where their mothers work as prostitutes. Zana Briski, a New York-based photographer, gives each of the children a camera and teaches them to look at the world with new eyes.”
Jack Black, love him or hate him, but when you pair him up with Mos Def and Michel Gondry, you have internal sunshine of the demented mind.
The Premise behind the movie is this, JB is magnetized and erases the tapes. They remake the films,(low, low budget style) and replace the magnetized tapes. From Ghostbusters to Driving Miss Daisey to Robocop, each skit looks great. It looks really funny in a Gondry way. So add it to your must see for 2008.
I have always enjoyed films that combine various stories directed by different directors. Michel Gondry has just wrapped up his piece, Interior Design, which is part of T
I just watched the trailer for this upcoming film, it’s Blair/Dawn of the Dead/28 days. It looks like it could be a classic. But, one question. When will Tom Cruise buy it and remake it? Here is a little bit of the review I read on Ain’t it cool news.
“…The movie is about news reporter Angela and cameraman Pablo, who go to film a documentary about a normal night with the fire brigade. The entire movie is filmed by Pablo as the documentary they are making. The night starts off with no calls…no fires…very boring, just hanging out with the firemen until they receive a call to go to a building. When they arrive, they are told by the neighbours that the old lady who lives on the second floor has been screaming for the past half hour. They go up….and well, this is when disturbing things start to happen. The old lady bites the neck of one of the firemen, and so they try to get out of the building for him to get some medical help, only to find the building locked from the outside under the “NBQ” (Nuclear, Biochemical and Chemical) protocol by military men…we learn there is an unknown infection in the building…you can imagine what happens to the fireman who has been bitten…”
Recently in a conversation fueled by the obvious vices, it was agreed upon that a heavier, more literary voice could be beneficial for a series of movie reviews. Luckily I did not have search far, as the conversation was held with the man who would take it upon himself to fill this role. With that I present for your reading pleasure, the reviews of my old, grizzled friend Flats.
This week, No Country For Old Men.
**Enablist’s note: For those who have not seen this movie or read the book, but want to, don’t read this. If you could care less, like the most of us, go for it.
No Country. Read the book, saw the movie, had beers on both coasts. Chatted with Playboy Bunnies at the Mansion, worked with two talented directors, flirted with ex-girlfriends and told them we should bang, politely smiled and engaged diatribe with beautiful female colleagues upon my return to New York. No Country indeed.
Nothing to do this weekend? Check out Guy Richie’s “new” film Revolver, starring Jason Statham, Ray Liotta and Vincent “pussy” Pastore. Originally released in 2005, it has made its way to the states today.

I cannot wait to see this movie and it is not only because I am slightly addicted to this song. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Perfectly timed for a Christmas Tree weekend.
