are you semi-permanent?

semipermanent

Internet years are like dog years, each one is equal to at least 5. Anyway, we just got a heads up and some words of praise from Design is Kinky. I can remember when I first heard of them and saw their site and work, it feels like decades ago. They have this event called Semi-Permanent, it is actually pretty permanent. Semi-Permanent has been around for 6 years, with 17 events in 6 cities throughout 4 countries with 109 speakers…. etc etc you get the point.  If you have never heard  of Design is Kinky or this event check it out and if your close by,  go to the event. Here is a bit of info.

“Semi-Permanent is a design event. It consists of a conference and side events which include exhibitions, competitions, workshops and parties. It’s a week long celebration of all things design. Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics, Stop Motion; all these things and more. Semi-Permanent explores the diverse and exciting design world bringing together exceptionally talented artists and designers to speak at the event.”

Lawrence Lessig + Shepard Fairey + Steven Johnson: Remix

What is the future for art and ideas in an age when practically anything can be copied, pasted, downloaded, sampled, and re-imagined?

LIVE from the NYPL and WIRED Magazine kick off the Spring 2009 season with a spirited discussion of the emerging remix culture. Our guides through this new world—who will take us from Jefferson’s Bible to André the Giant to Wikipedia—will be Lawrence Lessig, author of Remix, founder of Creative Commons, and one of the leading legal scholars on intellectual property issues in the Internet age; acclaimed street artist Shepard Fairey, whose iconic Obama “HOPE” poster was recently acquired by the National Portrait Gallery; and cultural historian Steven Johnson, whose new book, The Invention of Air, argues that remix culture has deep roots in the Enlightenment and among the American founding fathers.
