“On January 23rd, 2009, Powell-Peralta hosted the Rip the Ripper Art Show. Fifty eight artists had pieces on display. The reason for the show was to celebrate The Ripper graphic. So many skaters and artists have been influenced by VCJ’s image over the years, we wanted to do something that would pay respect to VCJ and get skaters stoked. We invited a group of artists and asked them to interpret The Ripper in their own style. Curator: Désirée Astorga”

Captured over the course of six years, BACKFLASHES is a gorgeous glimpse through the eyes of ruedione into the adventure of writing graffiti. These photos are outstanding, and the book is a must buy. For more of a background on the photographer/artist, Ekosystem has a great interview.
In their book Tossed & Found, one of the things that Linda and John Meyers explain is how they found and in turn created this fantastic chess set using an old type tray, risers, and both cases of letters. The results are incredible and inspirational for those who like to do things themselves. Have a look at their blog for more and definitely pick up the book.
Unfortunately, we cannot always afford the books we like and see, and only the really smart book publishers send titles our way. So, to deliver you an inside look at really great books, we decided to go renegade and just photograph them in Book Stores. Above is Nollywood, a fascinating oversized photo book by Pieter Hugo, published by Prestel, and available at The Strand.
Vinditto turned me on to this book that looks back at the Manchester music scene from the 1970′s onward.
“The volume features iconic shots of bands such as Joy Division, The Fall, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, New Order, and Oasis. Also featured are interviews with Kevin’s former colleagues Paul Morley, Stuart Maconie and John Harris as well as Gavin Martin’s interviews with Johnny Marr, Peter Hook and Mark E. Smith.”
