Blek Le Boring

So let’s say your girlfriends mom has been hearing all about this ‘Urban Art’ from publications like Time and whatnot.  She knows your hip to it and she wants a piece of the action. What do you do? You buy her this print above by Blek Le Rat, fit for moms, soccer moms and whomever else stays in the confines of prudishness.  It also comes in three other colorways.

Art Collection Voyeur

I always love peeking at art collection installations, and stumbled upon an amazing one the other day. Leah over at More Ways to Waste Time has a virtual tour of the home of San Francisco art collectors Donald and Philip. Their collection includes pieces by Margaret Kilgallen, Barry McGee, David Huffman and Christina Empedocles. It’s like a photo essay mash-up ripped from the pages of Dwell and Artforum … be prepared to drool.

Shepard Fairey Tuesday: A nice collection for sale

If you are just learning about Shepard Fairey’s work and want to build a collection of it, your best bet is this auction on ebay. 20 prints, fairly rare, almost all of them worthwhile acquisitions. I have to say that I kind of enjoy imagining this type of block sale, it really feels like a commodity.

After a media blitz over the past week, Banksy adds this note above to his website.

Damien Hirst it has already been done

Damien Hirst has been rumored to be collaborating with luxe cell phone brand.

“Not everyone can own a diamond encrusted skull, but everyone wants a piece of Damien Hirst’s aesthetic. The star artist is rumored to be collaborating on a project with Vertu, purveyor of wildly expensive luxe handcrafted mobile phones with jeweled buttons and other uber-pricey details.”
