Hi,
I’m jay howell, I live in San Francisco and here’s what I’ve been listening to lately:
Art Museums – Sculpture Gardens

This sounds to me like it would be on Flying Nun records.
I think it’s just great and I will go see them on Friday at Thee Parkside with Sonny Smith and the Fresh and Onlys.
That shows gonna rip it up.

White Fence – The Love Between

I guess this is the guy from Darker My Love . I never heard that band until a few seconds ago and I wasn’t feelin it.
The White Fence record on the other hand, is wicked. Like the Zombies smooshed up with Ariel Pink.
Kind crazed naming your band after a gang right?, buy hey, cool name.

Buy music online? Listen to it on myspace – all lame – so I told myself for like a way long time. Then for some random reason – i’m sure it had something to do with me checking the Dischord Records site, I found the Title Tracks. It was catchy – all most in like a girly way, like I questioned my manhood (what little I have left) for listening to it. Over and over and over again. But crap, it was like real real good. Then I saw that my old buddy was the drummer – Andrew Black. Andrew even interned for me at While You Were Sleeping. Played drums for the Explosion among a bunch of other neat stuff. Basically I am telling all of you that I am a music critic – and I know what all of you like. I mean just check out my sound advice I did for this crappy website you are reading and wasting your time on now instead of mine: rogergastman.com. Anyway, my sound advice was the most downloaded one ever. It even crashed the servers at world’s best ever. In fact it was so great dave is going to repost it right now after this title track post. Go buy my friend andrew’s music – he has mouth’s to feed.

This is exactly what I want to hear right now.
Do you guys have any more songs?
What label are you on?
Will you play in San Francisco this summer?
So I like this song a lot, and will jam it full blast at Smiths night on Friday.

I went and saw The Runways on opening night. If ya know my ass, you know I really like punk. Like I love it. Like I have mad punk rock collections of shit. Like old shit – not new stuff. New stuff is not so hot.

If you haven’t heard Big Star you’re insane.

I love the part so much when he’s like “won’t you tell your dad to get off my back, tell him what we said ’bout paint it black, rock and roll is here to stay, come inside where it’s ok, and i’ll shake you ”
Concerns of an awesome generation of music. Shits so stupid now compared to that.

Shit! I did a double header – and I know it aint even baseball season yet. But they be down in spring training swinging those bats – getting drunk and riding speed boats. I dedicate my last Saturday night to them. The baseball players on the “roids” – don’t get caught!
I started the evening at the lovely Americana in Glendale California. Did you know you can get an apartment/condo there? At the MALL! I could live at the mall – I would be home now. And I would be so so so so happy. I mean even just a weekend get away bungalow – one bedroom joint! What what! Did I mention it was at the mall?

I don’t really feel they have ever captured the same feeling as Lesser matters ( totally ruling record ) but this is good and will do the trick.

Wise and I decided with some help from Zio and Shelley that taking down a whole baskin robins ice cream cake was a good idea. It was great idea. It’s the pizza we ate right before it that wasn’t such a good idea. Also the blue icing was more like playdough. All in all we did a good job I feel. The guy who owned the store thought we were nuts. Zio also helped out a little.

For those of you looking for that gift for that special little girl in your life…

I’m hungry for some Nemo. This mother fucker is still alive though. I don’t get it. Stupid fish needs to die!

In this feature, two of our favorite people, Neil Anblomi and Anita Goodman, ask each other important questions
This week, Neil asks Anita…
Neil: The other day I was riding the subway and there was a phrase written on the wall of the train that really got me thinking. The text read “In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.” So after some internet searching I found that in a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if
we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E.coli) – bacteria found in feces. In other words we drink shit all day, everyday. So, Jenny, are you thirsty yet? Also, does love=sex?

You heard it before – but see the pictures AGAIN and AGAIN. I need to own one. I need to kidnap a freaking chef from there or something. Get the 5 nut brownie and then go meAT up with a straight bro for the 6th…

I love the chocolate cake. It has to be just right, moist, fluffy, at least two layers with chocolate icing on the whole thing. Sometimes extra icing is good cus then I’ll get to romance my face with the cake and getting all that chocolaty creamy icing in and around my mouth. Yeah you see the candle that’s romance.

Rich had a birthday September 30th, my birthday October 9th. Rich is to cheap to buy me a present because he is a broke loser. On his birthday I bought him a brand new duel cassette player, Sony Discman, gift certificates to Chipotle. And what the hell did I get? A large chunk of ten day leftover birthday cake. Thanks Asshole. How funny will it be next year when you get leftover birthday cake that’s 350 days old and I ain’t freezing it.
