A Crystal Room, A Levitation Room, and Rolling Sleep Chairs

Yesterday morning inside PS1′s new geodesic Performance Dome, plans were revealed for the newly branded Marina Abramovic Institute in Hudson, NY. The OMA designed venue (Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas) is being built specifically to cater to long duration performances, with its central design referencing baseball stadiums in the way that one can watch what is happening while doing something else. Hence, the Crystal and Levitation Rooms, as well as the rolling sleep chairs. Visitors will have the option of taking part in the Abramovic method through a series of classes, or observing for a minimum of two and one half hours. Whatever the case, this space will help foster the performing arts for years to come, as it is a performance piece itself.
