Victor Reyes opened his latest show War Paint at Known Gallery in Los Angeles last night. We sat down with the man for a couple questions.

We are pleased to present our 71st installment of Sound Advice featuring Wary Meyers. When they’re not re-imagining the interiors of brownstones and shops — or channeling the spirit of Lubalin and Dorfsman within the lobbies of ad agencies — they’re publishing books, designing clothes, painting, constructing and tactfully trawling estate sales, flea markets, records bins and Japanese bookshops for the ultimate finds. Wary Meyers reside in Portland, Maine.

Breaking Day

Three boys sit in the parking lot of a drive through chicken restaurant.
Barely teenagers they are dressed in black T-shirts and cut off jeans, and speak with third generation Echo Park accents.
Equipped with two irregular sized bicycles (one too small, one not small enough) they are planning a mission but cannot agree on where it will take them.
The sun has just retired.
The city is becoming a boundless wonderpark.
None has to be home until Monday.
Rock, paper, scissors dictates who will ride the skateboard.
They circle the lot, profane and curious-
who is a faggot,
who talks like a little bitch,
who runs the game
-then scream off past me, unaware of the tragic state of the U.S. economy,
toward a mission
that will no doubt shape the rest of their lives.

After hearing about the Red Velvet Fried Chicken at American Cupcake out in San Francisco, we had to know how it was. We sent the intrepid fried chicken lover, and artist’s artist Richard Colman along with his lovely girlfriend Monique to find out how good it was. The result?

“I’d say it was about a C. No real flavor to the chicken. That’s just it. They thought the red velvet would be enough (that part is very tasty) but no herbs and spices.”

I’m going to go ahead and predict that Pandas are the new Monkeys. They can’t be the new cats, because Pandas are too big for our living rooms.
