Just when I was thinking of upgrading some of my shared drive storage: Today, Amazon has a deal on the Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green SATA Hard Drive. It’s $85 – about a 25% lower price and 50% more storage than a 1TB drive a year ago. These also go up to 2TB, but I don’t think the price is right on those yet.
These are generally highly rated, and I’ve had two (1TB models) of these running in a network shared drive for a year and a half straight – 24/7, never powered down. I run my entire music and movies library from the server, and back up all files there. I’ve had a super low number of disk errors on one drive (talking single figures) and zero errors on the other.
“Low power consumption, reduced noise, low temperatures and capable of holding 300,000 digital photos, 375,000 MP3 files, and 180 hours of video make this Western Digital 1.5 TB hard drive a great deal on massive storage.”
