Tonight, our friends at the Anonymous Gallery are hosting a benefit for the incarcerated members of England’s DPM Crew.
DPM: EXHIBIT A
Exhibition & Benefit for the DPM Graffiti Crew.
Monday, August 4th, 2008, 6pm – 9pm
An Anonymous Gallery Project Space
27 N. Moore Street
Please join us on Monday August 4th from 6 – 9 pm @ an Anonymous Gallery project space located @ 27 N. Moore Street, Tribeca, NYC for DPM: EXHIBIT A, an evening exhibit that explores societies differing opinions of street art: Art or vandalism, creative expression or destruction of private property? The irony, however, is that although museums and galleries are celebrating street art, its provocateurs are still being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Five members of the UK DPM graffiti crew have been convicted and sentenced for criminal damage, and for the first time in the history of graffiti culture, on a charge of conspiracy to criminal damage. On the same day of their sentencing in London, England, July 11th, the Tate Modern was exhibiting the first public museum display of acclaimed street art.
Anonymous Gallery will showcase enlarged photographs of artwork produced by convicted members of DPM, along with copies of the charges held against them. The photographs will be available for sale in editions of 50. All proceeds go to support DPM.
Sponsored by Speakerscorner UK, End of the Weak UK, Overspray Magazine and Youareonthelist.com. Hosted by Anonymous Gallery.
