Longest day of the year
This Friday/Saturday is the the Summer Solstice [ read here ]
Here’s some knowledge to impress your friends…..
Solstices occur twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is oriented directly towards or away from the Sun, causing the Sun to reach its northernmost and southernmost extremes. The name is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the Sun stands still in declination; that is, its apparent movement north or south comes to a standstill.
Anyway now to the point, since it is officially summer you will now have more reason to do more things outdoors. So, we put together the best places to see movies outside. From London to LA.
New York:
HBO hosts Bryant Park Summer Film Festival June 16-Aug 18.
Summer Screen at McCarren Park Pool July 8-Aug. 26.
Movies with a View at Brooklyn Bridge Park July 10- Aug. 28
*Outdoor Cinema at Socrates Sculpture Park July 7- Aug. 27.
Los Angeles:
The W Los Angeles Summer Sunday Cinema Series at the Backyard every Sunday at sunset through Sept. 28th.
Cinespia cemetery screenings, every weekend
Set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Cinespia’s screenings of classic movies in the summertime has become an annual favorite. Come early because parking around Santa Monica can be tricky. Pack a meal, a glass of wine, a six of beer.
London:

Somerset House Summer Screenings include an eclectic range of films, on show in the open air in a relaxed outdoor cinema environment. Tickets are in demand for the chance to enjoy classic cinema in the sun at Somerset House.
Somerset House on the north bank of the River Thames next to Waterloo Bridge is using its large central fountain courtyard to stage a series of open air movie screenings this month under the title Film4 Summer Screen.
