polaroid film no more

First it was Gocco, now Polaroid. Polaroid announced this past week that they are shutting down the last of their film producing factories in the United States. They have also announced they will close their factories abroad in Mexico and the Netherlands before the year’s end. It was seemingly inevitable and soon coming after they stopped producing film cameras a year ago. In their press release they’ve stated there will be stock on shelves at least in to 2009 so I suppose if you are the hording type you have time to stock up. Via The WashingtonPost.

They have also stated they are looking for someone to license the technology to so enthusiasts can hope Fuji or another company can find something profitable there to work with.

Thanks to Search and Destroy for pointing this out. Now I will have to stock up on film for the land camera.
