Its somewhat unoriginal but its still pretty good, and better than the majority of the street shit out there these days, what happens when two artists come to the same conclusion? their stuff looks similar...
but for now with todays Faile prices this Greg Gossel is the "Poor Mans Faile"

Greg is a great artist. there are plenty of art out there that is inspired by others and although Faile does nice work we call all see who inspired them.
Nice Job Greg- Keep it going!!

Faile has a huge body of work that lead to this work, a decade of doing street art and creating a style that is unique to them. Everyone is inspired by someone but Greg's stuff is a blatant "rip-off!"
Hopefully he will develop a style of his own someday or simply fade away into plagiarized anonymity...

This sucks, Faile has worked hard and are great guys, it pisses me off to see someone try to make a quick buck off their success. IMO you can see how much of a difference in detail is between those two pictures, win Faile. I dont see how this Greg dude can feel anything but shame for ripping them off.

You all need to frickin' chill!! If you want to start talking plagiarism you all need to get your ignorant heads out of your as#e's. Are any of you even old enough to remember the cultural phenomenon of pop art that revolutionized the 50's and 60's? If you want to start talking about your precious Faile and the supposed originality, than familiarize yourselves with Roy Lichenstein's painting called Drowning Girl, look familiar!!? or Girl With Hair Ribbon.Warhol and Lichenstein ARE the originals, everything after that is just a copy, Faile included! You all need to cut Gossel some slack, he's obviously got talent and if you noticed he quotes some of his inspirations come from those original artists. So who's really copying who, Faile can be charged guilty as well! For Not I Judge Lest I Be Judged!!!

Yes, obviously Pop Art was a big inspiration to the work going on here. And obviously Faile's work references that, but they're taking it further. They're recontectualizing the work that's being appropriated and turning them into larger stories. Pop left off with directly copying these things from the sources (like Gossel). What I know of Faile's work is they push way beyond that and create a voice and world of their own. I think with Faile you see their inspirations and you see where they've gone beyond that and made something of their own. With this Gossel guy it just looks like really badly done Faile's. That's what this post is about! It's not about Gossel making a bad Lichenstein. People recognize this as a Faile style piece. They see that style of Faile's with their own characters and the heavily layered imagery inspired by living in a city with heavily layered lives and they see a Faile piece. That is what makes them unique. That is what makes them Faile. That is what makes Gossel's pieces a disappointing copy. Maybe he does have talent? He just doesn't have originality or a vision to take something further than what's come before him.

You people are all talking from a perspective that supposedly "knows" faile, but do any of you know Gossel? Any of his life experiences, views, or work that led up to what he is doing today? Just because it's comic book images of women? How many people draw figures or characters? Look at Barry McGee and then look at Dave Kinsey... were all human, people come to the same conclusions about life. I mean come on, "bad faile!" that just sounds ignorant to me. Even one of you said, and i quote, "you can see how much of a difference in detail is between those two pictures" what is that! that right there, the details are different, look at other pieces of gossel's look at the other images, research them. gossels work has depth and meaning, racially charged, politically charged, is that something that faile has??... just some things to think about, just because you might be buddies with faile doesnt mean they never were inspired by anyone, it doesnt mean they were the first ones to ever combine images or make something that imitates city life. we all share, we all grow, gossel has something to say, you just need to listen.
