auction saboteur

auction-saboteur.jpg

Auction Saboteur is a website based out of England which is essentially a free art classified based on the honor system. It is a very noble idea as it connects buyers and sellers directly, cutting out any middleman fees. Relatively new, the site still has some kinks to work out (a currency converter is quite necessary), but the natural business element of free trade is there and that is what matters most.

well dodgy. be very careful. already had fake prints for sale.
no good for international buyers unless you're mates with seller!!

Posted by: Voice of truth:

This site has had NO fake prints... a jealous donkey I feel

Posted by: mule:

I dunno seems like a high risk site. Prefer eBay any old day. the fees aren't too bad and plus you can leverage the guarantees and security ebay provides. This site offers none and absolves itself from any responsibility. pass...

someone trying to carve a niche out of the current street art boom?, very amateur & open to abuse, amongst friends, ok, as a viable business?, forget it.

Posted by: mark.:

Are you guys having a laugh. Auction saboteur is bloody cool web site. Its gone down a storm so far. Its simply a way to buy and sell directly from people for free. There are lots of middlemen that are not best pleased with the site as is evident above. You know when the establishment is unhappy, there's something very right about it. Go check it out for your self. Regarding the business comment, the motivation behind the site was not to make a business, its just a refreshing web site created from the need to organize the increasing number of peer to peer sales that happen on a regular basis on sites like wallkandy.net and banksy.info.

What makes you think it's 'middlemen that are not best pleased with the site'? I'm an art lover who is continually denied the opportunity of buying work at cost by those who use this site as a mealticket. If it weren't for them and sites like this, myself and others might be able to purchase work at a price we can afford to use as intended by the artist - that we might enjoy looking at their work on our walls rather than in your adverts.

AuctionSaboteur? Wouldn't it be better named 'TheFlippersFriend'?

On the contrary, the site is most sensitive to this form of behavior than any other. Firstly the site expressly requests that multiple's are not sold on the site as one of it house rules.

Secondly the site is sensitive to requests from the artists and if they do not wish their prints to be resold after sale any posts for a print up to 6 months after resale will be removed once spotted.

The site was purely motivated by the desire to create a 'democratic art gallery', a space where everyone gets to enjoy the means of production, a 'post industrial art gallery'. The artists featured can sell work directly to the public for free. Collectors enjoy the ability to recycle a little of their art among each other for free also whilst the gallery's get charged if they wish to sell more than 5 pieces of art on the site.

Auction saboteur never was a green light to people flipping prints, rather a green light to a new fairer type of art gallery for the 21st century.

Posted by: Pezlow:

I think it is good idea myself.

Of course it helps people to sell things (and occasionally flip things) but I'd rather they flipped on this, where prices are transparent, than on ebay or online "galleries". Besides the whole flipper argument is boring now. People will flip whether or not auction saboteur is around.

I really don't understand all the hate on here. It gives people another option to trade, it is free of charge and it is transparent. What is to hate about it?

Posted by: Aston:

Its a great idea which has already had some good prices on work listed ( & sold) although i have purchased nothing yet i believe the basics are well rooted & the site will build over time.

I think the people who posted negative comments are just jealous that they did not have the idea 1st and it seem's like sour grape's.

Maybe if people spend time researching what people in the art market wanted they would have realised its long overdue.
Its just a shame i did not pick up on the idea many months back but alas i was busy posting top heavy pictures of my missus as my avatar.

Perhaps those making negative comments regarding this site would take the time to back up their arguments with some evidence? Great idea, which can only help make the process of buying and selling in the secondary market a more personal process without the fee's of Ebay and with an administrator who will help you at every turn. Well done Auctionsab!

i think this site is a pure breath of fresh air, a street art sales tool that is as raw as the scene itself - why go and take money out of urban art by going via ebay?

top marks to whoever came up with the concept, as with all great ideas it's genius is in it's simplicity, i can't recommend it highly enough.

as for the actual 'saboteur's', unless you can substantiate your slanderous claims of fake work i suggest you take those comments back. anyone who knows their stuff can see the site is flawless and will say so, those who don't can rest assured that it is 100% trustworthy.

for further reference and impartial opinion i suggest newbies go check www.wallkandy.net, the only urban art forum for unbiased, un-censored and impartial advice on the web.

this site rocks!!!

Good luck for the new site.

Hi Lucy, may I remind you that only artists or those they give permission to may sell multiple copies of art on saboteur.

If an artist see's people selling their prints at a higher cost than they are slling them for, all they need to do is include their work on saboteur at a cheaper price than that which is being sold.

Also only artists enjoy a gold account which means they can place their whole catalogue of prints onto sab for free and undercut any resellers if they wish.

Hope that helps.

Posted by: tom hills:

that's a great feature mark, if the artists want to represent themselves they can do, plus if it stops a few flippers making a quick buck then that's a bonus!

i have had a few bits up for sale on there and still have one up now, it's easy to use, fair, ethical and transparent and the fact it is to try and keep large faceless companies from taking money from something they ave no intention of putting back in to is really something to be proud of.

good on you mark for getting another successful, positive idea of your's off the ground and up and running, i think you should be really proud of yourself.

tom.

You are joking, right? You clearly have no interest in the artists at all, do you? Nor it seems in the welfare of people buying through your site.

I shall be looking into the legalities of what the sellers you're representing are doing, and that of your website itself.

Well it would seem that there are those intent on sabotaging auction saboteur! Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. I knew the owner was being pursued by a motley crew of haters who have their own agenda, but this is just vile.

I think it's a sad day when someone does something so simple and brilliant that helps people so much that there are those who wants to tear it down out of jealousy and mindless hate. So sad.

The thing is, the site speaks for itself, it doesn't matter what people say because once you go there and use it, it becomes wildly apparent that there is obviously a smear campaign by a couple of fools who want to destroy the very thing we've needed in... forever! I just don't understand how people can be so destructive.

Auction saboteur is a wonderful tool and I shall continue to use it. It's what we've been crying out for. The guy who started it should be bloody sainted!

Posted by: Dan - a happy customer.:

Used the site to sell a print I no longer liked. Put it up in the afternoon on a Thursday, someone had expressed an interest and bought it the same evening.
I met the buyer (who was a really nice guy) and exchanged print for cash in a public place on the Saturday.

Extra cost to him - sod all
Extra cost for me - Sod all.

Everyones Happy.
Screw Ebay.

Ignore the negativity, it's a great site and the guy who set it up is a great bloke.

How many greats is that?
